Speaking and press

AI is a fast-moving challenge for society, which is why we host, speak and write to share insight, opportunities and challenges with funders.

MozFest Funders Summit - Catherine

Speaking to philanthropy

The European AI & Society Fund team regularly speaks and moderates at philanthropy and civil society events:

→ MozFest

→ Philea Forum

→ BePhilanthropy

→ Nobel Prize Dialogue

→ re:publica

→ CPDP

We can provide bespoke speaking engagements for foundations’ boards and staff, helping you think through what AI accountability means in your own work.

Speaking to press

Our team are experts on AI and society in Europe. We have been interviewed for podcasts and press, including features in Alliance Magazine and AufRuhr, the Mercator Foundation Magazine.

We can also put you in touch with subject experts from civil society organisations we support, on issues such as:

→ AI regulation and AI governance

→ AI and facial recognition/ border surveillance

→ AI and algorithmic discrimination, including racial justice.

→ AI in health and welfare

→ AI and workers’ rights

Hosting funders' briefings

In partnership with Ariadne, we organise quarterly funders’ briefings around topical issues which are open to grantmakers. We carefully select two-three speakers, usually our grantees, from the AI and society field to share their insight.

For example, we have hosted funders’ briefings on:

→ What young people want from AI in Europe

→ AI and data centres

→ AI and the Climate Hoax

→ AI and social welfare

→ AI and deregulation in Europe

Please note, briefings are for funders only, although we do usually publish a paper with insights afterwards.

Republica 24 - Alex

Topics we cover:

AI and grantmaking

Beyond using AI in grantmaking processes, we help funders really think about how AI is affecting their mission and the beneficiaries they are aiming to help.

AI accountability – what works

Drawing on insight from our grantees, we can give concrete examples of how public interest organisations have made businesses and governments accountable for AI harms.

How to build civil society power in Europe

Drawing on insight from our fieldbuilding, we can advise funders on what they can practically do to build civil society power in Europe to direct AI so it serves people, society and planet.
