Glitch is a UK charity committed to ending the abuse of women and marginalised people online. Through workshops, training, reports and programmes, Glitch equips the intersectional community to become the digital citizens we need in the world today. From grassroots to systemic change, Glitch advocates for an online world that is a safe space for all.
With this European AI & Society Fund grant, Glitch continued bringing an intersectional view to AI policy in Europe. It built on its research with the European Network Against Racism on deepfake image abuse of Black women, and worked with its community to create non-criminal routes to redress. It also began building a network of Black researchers and tech experts focused on AI's impact on Black people.
With this grant, Glitch carried out the first intersectional research on deepfake image abuse against Black women, filling a gap in the field. It used the findings to make recommendations for reducing racialised online gender-based violence, and assessed the EU AI Act for gaps in intersectional policy. It also worked with a group of Black women experts on its response to Ofcom's Illegal Harms consultation.
